The Gift of Pastors
Paul tells us that God “gave some to be…pastors” (Eph.4:11). He further says that the purpose of this gift is to equip God’s people for kingdom service and to encourage spiritual growth in the body of Christ. During the challenging times we have been and continue to be navigating, I am more thankful than ever for pastors. Six words come to mind about these dedicated men and women of God. They happen to form an acrostic for the gift of PASTOR.
Practical - Kentucky pastors have been very resourceful during the COVID 19 crisis. They have been flexible in worship service delivery systems (Drive In services, Facebook Live, etc). The management of financial resources and facilities sanitation has been done with excellence.
Affirming - Pastoral care has been strong across the Bluegrass State. Cards, calls, and emails have been abundant. Faithful pastors have developed systems to stay in touch with every member of their flock.
Steady - In the midst of a crisis, people need to see unflappable leadership. Our pastors have stayed calm and steady at the helm of the ship. This has inspired hope and confidence in our congregations.
Thinking - Effective pastors are not afraid to ask questions and explore new ideas. Between the coronavirus and recent unrest in the area of race relations, our pastors have been quick to engage with others, share what they are doing and seeking to learn from others. Our pastors are eager to learn and grow.
Orderly - Kentucky Church of God Pastors are respectful of leadership and want to conduct ministry in safe and responsible ways. They realize that all of us only have authority when we are under authority. Pastors, thank you for working with us as a team to continue to do ministry as safely as possible.
Resilient - Like the old Timex watch commercial, we have all “taken a licking, but kept on ticking.” The strength of our pastors and spouses continue to amaze me. Our camaraderie is as strong as ever. The future of the Church of God in Kentucky is as bright as ever because of the tenacious vision of our pastors.
